Paragraph : Education For All
The phrase 'Education For All' has, of late, gained much currency. It is now felt that if all the people, both male and female, are not educated, all-round socio-economic development of a nation is not possible. The uneducated people will drag down the educated to their level. Now what is the significance of education? It seeks to draw out and develop the latent faculties in man and make of him a true citizen.
An uneducated man cannot make out what is good for him, what he should do and what he shouldn't. He is not aware of his own rights and duties as a citizen. In India education for all is still a far cry. The bulk of the Indian population is deprived of the light of education. Naturally they are victims of many social evils which sap social health. Superstitions. Anti-social activities, bad practices like sati, infanticide, etc. - all proceeds from their want of education. Female education is still considered a taboo in many remote villages. The parents who send their daughters to school are sometimes socially ostracized.
Of late, the central and state governments have undertaken various programs to impart education to all. New primary schools are opened in remote villages. Night schools are set up for adults. Stress is also put on female education. Much is done for the education for all, but much remains to be done. Primary education should be made all, compulsory, The parents who will not send their sons and daughters to school should be punished. The child labor should be made a culpable offense. The government should take police action against those who will discourage female education. And above all, the students of primary schools should be given books, papers, pencils and provided with free mid-day meal and tiffin.
