Biography of Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi was a great patriot. His full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2nd October, 1868 at Porbandar in Gujrat. His father was Kaba Gandhi. He passed the Matriculation Examination in his homeland. Then he went to England and had his Bar-at Law degree from there. Then he went to South Africa. He took to legal practice. There he came across ill treatment by the Europeans. He organised Satyagraha or non-co-operation movement there. Later in 1915 he returned to India. He could not sit idle. He felt for the countrymen who were suffering under the British rule. He started relentless struggle against the British.
In his struggle he never adopted violent means. He conducted his fight in a peaceful manner. He began the Non-co-operation Movement in 1920. In 1930 he started his Salt Campaign and broke the Salt Law. In 1942 came the Quit India Movement. He was jailed many a times. On many occasions he observed fast for launching greater movement. He fell to the bullet of the assassin in 1948 in Delhi.
