Paragraph : Dignity of Labour
Any physical or mental work or exertion is termed as labor. Labor is essentially of two types - manual and intellectual, although there is a link between the two. Some may have an unnecessarily contempt for manual labor but it should be kept in mind that both unskilled and skilled manual labor needs some level of mental application. This makes certain jobs like those of engineers, masons, carpenters etc. more intellectual "than clerks who copy letters all day. Actually, all types of labor are valuable and they do have their relevance in our society. Moreover, manual labor keeps the body fit and strong. Most of the amenities of daily life are gifts of manual labour, and so through ages great men have never shirked away from it. There is indeed an enormous 'dignity' in manual labor and it is steadily getting a universal recognition. The children, therefore, should be taught dignity of labor so that they can make themselves self-helping persons in future.
